What to Expect

  • Swelling, Redness, Tenderness: Common for a few days.
  • Bruising: Possible, can last 1-2 weeks.
  • Firmness/Temporary Bumps: You might feel these. Massage is key (see below)!
  • Gradual Results: Sculptra works over time by stimulating your own collagen. Patience is important!

 

When to Call Us Immediately:

  • Excessive Pain or Severe/Rapid Swelling.
  • Signs of Infection: Fever, spreading warmth, pus.
  • Skin Changes: White or dusky color near injection sites.
  • Vision Changes or Severe Headache.
  • Concerns about Lumps: If they are painful or not softening as expected after a few weeks (despite massage).

Post-Care Instructions

  • MASSAGE (Very Important!):
    • Rule of 5s: Gently massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.
    • Start the day of or the day after your treatment. This helps distribute the product evenly.
  • Hands-Off:
    • Avoid touching the treated areas for at least a few hours.
    • Makeup: Apply gently after a few hours if no open skin, using clean tools.
  • Positioning:
    • Sleep slightly elevated (2 pillows) for 1-2 nights to help with swelling.
    • Try to sleep on your back.
  • Cold & Heat:
    • Cold Compress: Apply gently (10-15 min on/off) for the first day to reduce swelling/bruising.
    • Avoid Heat: No hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms for 48 hours.
  • Exercise & Meds:
    • No Strenuous Exercise: For 24-48 hours. Light walking is fine.
    • Avoid Blood Thinners: For 24-48 hours (unless your doctor says otherwise), avoid NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aspirin), Vitamin E, fish oil, and similar supplements to reduce bruising. Tylenol is okay.
    • Avoid Alcohol: For 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.
  • Other Treatments:
    • No facials, lasers, or peels on the area for at least 2 weeks.
    • Avoid dental work for at least 2 weeks if treated near the mouth/mid-face.

 

Healing & Support

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water.
  • Consider (Optional):
    • Arnica (oral or topical) or pineapple (bromelain) may help with bruising/swelling.
  • Avoid for 24-72 Hours:
    • Alcohol.
    • High-sodium or very spicy foods (can worsen swelling).

Helpful Tips

  • Social Plans: Allow for potential bruising/swelling if you have events.
  • Patience: Results appear gradually over months. Multiple treatments are usually needed.
  • Take Photos: Track your healing progress.
